Specialty ‘Pedagogical education’ applicants choose in both budget and paid options

In 2019, graduates of schools began to more often choose the specialties of “General Medicine”, “Pedagogical Education” and “Computer Science and Computer Engineering” for admission.

So said the head of the organization and conducting the state final certification of Rosobrnadzor Igor Kruglinsky.

The results of the admission campaign of Kazan Federal University confirmed the fact that the “Pedagogical Education” is of interest to those who received high scores on the exam, and those who go to the budget and paid tuition.

As a result of admission in 2019, 11933 people entered the first year of all directions at Kazan University (data as of September 4, 2019). Of these, in the areas of teacher education – 2150, including 740 – in the Institute of Psychology and Education. Thus, student teachers make up 18% of the entire student body of our university (for comparison, in 2018 – 16%).

The average mark of enrolled students (general competition with beneficiaries and target beneficiaries) for “Pedagogical education” amounted to 76.62 points.

The highest average USE scores were registered among applicants enrolled in the direction of “Pedagogy” in the budget places of undergraduate and full-time specialties at the Institute of International Relations – 82 points.

According to the director of the Institute of Psychology and Education, Aydar Kalimullin, in recent years at KFU there has been an increase in the interest of talented youth in the educational programs of the university. At the time of filing, the competition on the originals was three people in place.

– We have a high competition, and not only for bachelor’s, but also for master’s programs. Today, as part of the pedagogical direction, 9,000 people are studying at KFU, 2,000 people graduate from the university every year, of which about 500 people under the program with the Tatar language of instruction.

The director of the institute recalled that in a situation where 48 specialized pedagogical universities are training teachers in Russia, and more than 250 universities are engaged in pedagogical education in all, KFU is always among the five best universities in the country in terms of the quality of admission to psychological and pedagogical areas. According to the monitoring results, about 87% of graduates with a teacher’s diploma are successfully employed.

In 2019, the maximum number of budget places in the direction of undergraduate, specialty and master’s programs at KFU was allocated to the Institute of Psychology and Education (459 places, of which 219 are undergraduate and specialty, 240 – master’s degrees) – this is the maximum number over the past 5 years.

A special program is being implemented in Tatarstan when the government of our republic finances a target set for a number of pedagogical profiles. So, in the university allocated budget places (139) for directions in the bilingual educational environment for pedagogy (Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication). In 2018, 125 people entered KFU according to the target recruitment from the republic.

“Pedagogical education” in KFU has become a direction where the competition exceeded the university average several times. For example, the competition for “Pedagogical Education (with two specialization profiles)” at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication amounted to 44.47 people per place (667 applications at 15 budget places).

This direction of education and applicants who scored 100 points were not left without attention. Of the 199 stoals of Tatarstan, 94 applicants were enrolled in KFU (this is 9 more than in 2018), one person entered the Institute of Psychology and Education, who scored 100 points in the exam.

“Talented children come to us who become“ locomotives, ”Aidar Kalimullin is sure.

According to the head of the Ministry of Industry, O. Vasilyeva, teacher education provides good communication skills. It is precisely because of their communication skills that students of the pedagogical direction of training are quoted when applying for a job.

In recent years, the budget enrollment in pedagogical universities has been growing. This is pleasing, but still not enough, since in the face of a growing deficit, these figures cannot eliminate the lack of teachers in schools. In April, O. Vasilyeva noted that the shortage of teachers by 2029 will already be enormous – 188 thousand teachers.
